A friend of mine in Kiruna SWEDEN manufactures razors by hand. He asked me to test one of his razors. He should feel satisfied with the result.

  1sm Modifications
Posted by: CLBennett500 - 03-30-2019, 03:06 PM - Forum: Relevant General Discussion - Replies (7)

I'm new to the forum and wanted to post a modification I made to my Kally to use the surgisharp angle guide.
This is the second  revision I made. The first was a platton modification to access both sides of the belt to profile knives. I soon learned the 1SM is not the right tool to make knives with and upgraded to a KMG.
The second mod is what is pictured. I basically made a platton extension with an angle clip and pipe clamp. I tucked the extension behind the factory platton so when the angle guide is used the platton planes line up.
Has anyone else tried modifications that work with the surgisharp guide?

I like the setup but am regretting the first mod I did. I'm thinking of buying a new platton or 2 to further refine the setup.

Also, I am very impressed with this forum and how well you folks treat each other. I'm glad I found it.

  Rubber wheel

This rubber wheel is impressive.

It polishes the blade very effectively. I think it could be used for sharpening.

However, it's hard to see anyone using rubber wheels for polishing or sharpening.

Do you know why?

  Math vs. Myth
Posted by: Sam Sloane - 03-21-2019, 11:35 AM - Forum: Relevant General Discussion - Replies (9)

OK Guys....here is the deal.......

If you wanted to have your best knife sharpened to the highest standard......who would you give it to?

Option 1:.......Jangi Shitomoro....16th generation Bladesmith, using traditional methods.

Option 2:.......an un-named sharpener in Australia.....who can quantify every step of the process?

I am on a number of groups to soak up info.....and I do believe there are many than have that magic touch, but most just quote their own bible......but as an engineer, even watching gurus like Bob Kramer.......by putting numbers to it.....being repeatable, and doing every thing in precise ways just makes me salavate....

Whats your position?

Sam

  Knife Review: Lionsteel M4
Posted by: subwoofer - 03-21-2019, 08:16 AM - Forum: Knife and Blade Reviews - Replies (4)

This thread is a new approach for me regarding sharing my reviews. Forums are where I came from, and the discussion on forums is something I hope to be involved in and inspire. It has become too much work to convert the reviews published on my website into forum versions, so I need to try something else to stay in touch with the forums.

I am only including a headline introduction and link to the review - please return to this forum to discuss the review or ask questions.

To the Moderators, there is a reciprocal link at the end of every review on Tactical Reviews. If you have any concerns over this approach please let me know.

Knife Review: Lionsteel M4

If the Lionsteel M4 is not on your list of candidates for a utility / bushcraft / general purpose fixed blade knife, it should be. It is not a new model at the time of this review, now entering its third year of production, and the Mik Molletta designed M4 from Lionsteel seemingly finds that […]

  Chinese Cleavers
Posted by: Sam Sloane - 03-18-2019, 04:25 PM - Forum: Relevant General Discussion - Replies (20)

I recently came across a few videos using Chinese Cleavers.....

I have to say, they seem to be both robust, and very usable....maybe more so than western knives....

What experience does anyone have with them???

Sam
