A bigger hole? Every engineering detail is carefully thought out in advance at EOU Mr. Grepper. Our calculations indicated that a larger hole would have created a disruption in the space/time continuum. This would have been detrimental to any future plans for travel to more distant galaxies.
Then, on the serious side, while a larger hole might be helpful it won't solve the problem. EOU getting better at the mechanics of spooling canisters will. This we hope we have with the arrival of newly designed spools and spooling equipment. I can promise you "we're giving her all she's got captain".
