Test Line Threader - KnifeGrinders - 12-14-2017
RE: Test Line Threader - Mark Reich - 12-18-2017 I just use a loose spool of media, since it's handier for me, and a hemostat in my right hand. Rupert RE: Test Line Threader - Mark Reich - 12-18-2017 I have opinions galore! But first, tell me how these would be used.... RE: Test Line Threader - EOU - 12-18-2017 We assume that KG is referring to the oft times difficult task of coaxing test media through a ATF during a rethreading operation. It's not an issue for KN100 or ME110 users but it can be for electronic instrumentation users. Not a problem usually with new replacement canisters of test media but almost impossible if you ever have to rethread a partially used canister due to a snag occurence or some other circumstance. We've made recent improvements to the canister and spooling process so, hopefully, snags will be less of an issue in the future. The genesis of the problem is that the test media takes on a "set" in the canister and, once released, is all curled up into small coils. You wouldn't think that feeding a .009 media through a .09 hole would be that tough but it can be. We quit fighting it long ago and just reach for a sewing needle. Even needles made for electric sewing machines work but, in our case, the bigger the eye and longer the needle the better. Thread the test media through the eye of the needle and shove the needle through the ATF guide hole then pull the needle, and test media, through from the top side of the ATF. Looks like KG has found another, perhaps better, alternative. We assume the shaft and apparatus of the needle threader must pass through the ATF's .093" guide hole. If it does and if we understand KG's post correctly, it looks like another very good way to "skin the cat". Thanks to KG for giving this issue some air time. RE: Test Line Threader - grepper - 12-18-2017 I presume there is a reason whey the guide hole does not have a slightly larger diameter? I would think that even a slightly larger diameter hole would make the process easier. RE: Test Line Threader - EOU - 12-19-2017 A bigger hole? Every engineering detail is carefully thought out in advance at EOU Mr. Grepper. Our calculations indicated that a larger hole would have created a disruption in the space/time continuum. This would have been detrimental to any future plans for travel to more distant galaxies. Then, on the serious side, while a larger hole might be helpful it won't solve the problem. EOU getting better at the mechanics of spooling canisters will. This we hope we have with the arrival of newly designed spools and spooling equipment. I can promise you "we're giving her all she's got captain". RE: Test Line Threader - KnifeGrinders - 12-20-2017 Thank you Rupert. As Mike noted, the real trouble is to rethread a partially used canister, especially when time is pressing. First time we thought we need a solution at the Sydney Knife Show, then this was encountered at the "Sharpest knife contest" in Adelaide. We've sent this Looper-Threader to all PT50 owners in Australia and NZ as a Christmas gift from BESS, and include it with every PT50 purchased from us. RE: Test Line Threader - Mark Reich - 12-20-2017 That's cool and nice of you, KG. Sorry, I'm just old school. |
