Heavenly Hones Here!
#1
I was just replying to another thread, when a fresh thought struck me. I've had time to think it through.

I have absolutely everything to make Perfect leather hones, and I have way more compounds than I need.

I could deliver Pre-Loaded hones very reasonably. Popular sizes would be 2x6" or 3x8". I would mount skived cowhide on 3/4" Baltic Birch plywood with Barge cement. All surfaces finish sanded. I always apply 2-3 full coats of compound to new hones.

I'm only going to offer this here, to BESSEX members.

Has anyone heard of anything like this?

Is anyone interested? Please leave your thoughts!

Mark,

Contacted three other BESSEX members,  they are on board and committed.

Their thoughts,  3x8's

I, have never heard of anything like this!

Before or after your business ventures at the http://www.buffalochip.com/  ?

Mark,
I would be interested.
One suggestion, offer a double stacked base, so 2x3/4" making it 1.5" tall.
I did this with my hone/strop in order to add some height between the table and the working surface.
Also, I backed my base with a layer of silicone so it doesn't slide around on the table.
Just some thoughts,
Wade.

Wow! That was fast! Thank you both very much!

Mr.Rupert, I will make these available right away. I'm happier with 3x8" too. These will end up being 1" tall, so that's the size.

Mr. Wade, I use adhesive rubber feet on anything like this. My hones, DMTs and Atomas all have them. I just set one on top of another when I'm not on the edge of the bench or countertop.

What compounds interest you?

I'm more of a 2" x 12" guy but I'm in for a couple of whatever size your making. No compound needed in my case.

The other three members are like me without compound experience.

Will go with your recommendations for - kitchen knives, pocket knives, utility knives - you are the "compound man".

For me burr removal and/or burr refinement is always at hand.

Yeah, same boat, compound of your choosing.

I don't recall any stops available with anything else but common stick compounds.

Is the Barge cement you speak of the All Purpose? Yellow and red container?

Stick (wax based) compounds aren't made for hones, and it shows.

Yes Sir, original Barge. I do it right too.

At the very least, you are stuck with an excellent hone forever. Send it back to try a different compound or just have it revitalized.

What compound do you think, Mr.Pete?
