NOTICE! my opinion - 10x LED magnifier
#1
Two weeks ago I ordered two of these https://www.amazon.com/Horizon-Optical-M...B00CMDIOBK

For reading the "edge" have found nothing better at 10x, nothing.

Two very useful and practical measuring scales.

Another Exchange member ordered two weeks ago and has since reordered.

My neck is on the chopping block.

Rupert,

I am still shifting gears from over five decades of film photography. I have several well used loupes which served me in many ways from focusing on a ground glass to examining 35mm negatives, slides and proofs. My 4x Schneider loupes cost over a hundred dollars each. Your 10x lighted loupes seem like real bargains. Unlike some items, we do not grow out of good loupes. I find my eyes are growing into them! Sad

I think 10x would be ideal for checking edges, especially in conjunction with a microscope.

ps With my digital camera, my ancient 105mm Micro Nikor lens works very well with manual focus. In fact, auto focus is a nuisance close up. I just move my single point of focus where I want it and hit the plus button several times. It works great, however, I do miss the charm of wearing the loupe around my neck and getting under the focusing cloth. That was photography.

Less than 14.00$ - try it for what ever reason - if you do not like it please send it on to me.

Thanks

Rupert,

I have already placed the 10x loupe on my Amazon wishlist, and will probably order it before the end of the week. A useful find!

Not much chance of disliking it!

FedEx minutes ago delivered this:  https://www.dazor.com/store/LED-Hand-Hel...r-10X.html

Installed 4 each AAA batteries and looked at blade.

Great lens quality, nothing for me at this age less than 10x and LED light(s).

Very little difference between the Horizon 10x and Dazor 10x other than when we have a thorn or etc we have about 1" clearance between instrument and project for tweezers or pocket knife using the Dazon.

Yes! that feature saves a trip to the emergency room.

For the sharpener,  the Horizon is the best value by far.  The measuring scales are built within  (English and Metric) and not in the way of viewing.

I have been using a loupe I believe in the same price range for several years. It's a dbpower 30x & 60x. Being frugal and one trying to make a living as a sharpener I find it a compromise until having a digital microscope.

It has a separate led for each lense. The 60x requires getting a little too close to an edge than I like.

Having super bright light when sharpening shows a lot!

Jeremy,

I agree; having good light defeats many problems. I really like LED lights. Even a pocket LED flashlight is very useful around the shop.

Once again, Rupert has spoken wisely. The 10X LED magnifier I ordered drom Amazon based on Rupert's recommendation just arrived. It works really well, and will become a staple in my workshop.

Thanks, Rupert.

I know this forum is blessed to have such an incredible resource as Mr. Rupert. Honestly, his discoveries and selfless sharing of pertinent information have continuously benefitted others, as well as myself.

This newest find of his tireless research has resulted in another game changer for me. It is easily the most useful and user friendly 10x magnifier I've ever come across.

Immediately upon use, I would have guessed the magnification at 20x. The lighting, clear resolution, perfectly fixed focal distance and especially the built in scale, make it so easy to use. It's a bargain at twice the price. Smile
