The only serrated knife I have sharpened is my Henckel bread knife. That knife has served me well for twenty seven years. I have had very satisfactory results sharpening it with a wooden dowel, either covered with sandpaper or diamond paste. I also tried using a tapered diamond file once, with less satisfactory results. I have a Soyderco tringular shsrpmeker, but have not yet tried it with my serrated knife. The expedient of just grinding away the non beveled side seems barbaric to me.
