I must confess that a major factor in going ahead with the reversing switch was that my motor was already at the motor shop to machine the shaft to fit the Viel pulley.
Is the reversing switch a good idea? At this point, I don't honestly know; it could go either way. (no pun intended)
Working on telephone poles for thirty five years, one of the mental games I played was training myself to provide an alternate tool should any of the tools fall to the ground or worse (memories of big sticker bushes come to mind
I will follow through whwn I use or do not use the reversing switch and ask myself how I would complete the operation if my reversing switch fell into the big sticker bush. I will be an honest reporter and post honestly.
I do find the versatility of sharpeners fascinating.
