I don’t generally see newtons used in the US.  Maybe it is, but I don’t really deal with subjects where it might be.  For the most part, to me newtons are Fig Newtons, which are a delicious and chewy fig paste filled cookie.  Actually now they are just called Newtons but I still call them Fig Newtons as that is what I grew up with.

Maybe newtons might be a good way to represent the mastication force necessary to eat the tasty and chewy Newton pastries.

Mr. Grepper, ordinary people in continental Europe also do not use newtons commonly. Older people often use the obsolete unit "kilopond" which is de facto kilogram-force. But school children and students are consistently educated to use SI units and they really do it. Also editors of recognised journals insist on using SI units.


What concerns Newtons cookies, hopefully will Mondelez keep the quality of the legendary product unchanged. In this country we have seen that Mondelez often modifies the original recipes. Sad
