"KnifeGrinders"
#1
I was sorry to learn that the knife sharpening community has lost an important influencer, prolific writer and videographer, and friend in Vadim Kraichuk, this month. Some may have known him better as "Wootz" from other forums but on Bessex, he was simply known  as the, abbreviated, "KG". Vadim was an unabashed and energetic pursuer of the science of knife sharpening.  His experiments helped sharpeners distinguish myth from reality and then, he freely shared  those findings with the knife sharpening community at large. His presence and contributions will be very much missed. Our thoughts are with his wife and children in Australia.

Mike, a well written and much deserved tribute to our friend.

We should also note that, as a well trained and disciplined researcher, Wootz was an early apostle for BESS testing. His videos demonstrate effective use of BESS.

Our friend will be much missed.

Vadim contributed a lot to the sharpening world including many informative posts here. He will be missed. With each passing we all lose a little. First Mark Reich and now KG. It's sad to see our community grow smaller.

I quickly embraced Wootz’s techniques and protocols.
We exchanged quite a few emails discussing various issues.
Always quick to respond and sometimes a little humorous, my learning curve was steep thanks to his patience and willingness to share.
I never had the pleasure of meeting Vadim -wish I had.
He will be missed by many.

A true pioneer, I also never had the pleasure of meeting Vadim in person. I, too, will be one of many who will miss him greatly.

Hello, I have been trying to get in touch with Knives Grinders by email and I do not get a return answer to my questions.

Is their business still open? I'm interested in purchasing a part that only they have.

Thanks in advance to anyone that has relevant information.

Hello Ken C - My understanding was that Vadim's son was responding, for a while, to emails directed to KnifeGrinders. It seems, from several similar questions that I have fielded these past few months, that is longer the case or, at best, hit and miss.  I see that the Knifegrinders web site is still active but I have no information indicating that they are still accepting and fulfilling orders. I'm sorry that I have no more than this to report on this matter.

Thank you very much, Mike, for your reply.

I don't know what to do at this point except to keep sending an inquiry regarding the product I'd like to purchase.

Sincerely,
ken c
