cleaning ceramic rods, a comment for Mark Reich
#1
I recently read a post by Mark Reich recommending Barkeeper's Friend cleaner. I bought a can and just tried it. I applied a little on a Scotch-Brite pad and worked on my two ceramic rods. One was a gift from Steve Bottorff originally from Smoky Mountain Knife Works. The other is an M3 I am testing for for Work Sharp Culiary. Both work very well, but eventually acquire the inevitable worn steel deposits.

In the past, I had good results removing the majority of this leftover steel with Soft Scrub and Scotch-Brite. The Barkeeper's friend got it all!

Thanks for the tip, Mark.

Barkeeper’s Friend is amazing stuff.  Just like their slogan says, “Once tried, always used”.

It is, hands down, the best cleaner of its type I have ever used.  It removes rust and mineral buildup from porcelain like nothing else.  It cleans stainless steel cookware and knives to sparkling new condition.  It even removes rust stains from cement.  I like the liquid for stainless steel, and the powder for just about everything else.

A lot of times all you have to do is wet a surface, sprinkle it on, wait 10 minutes and wash it off. Simply amazing.

I contains 7.9% - 9.5% oxalic acid and is a mild skin irritant so if you are into it for a while I’d wear gloves.  I didn’t once and it chapped my hands.

It actually does exactly what these images show.  I know.  I used it to clean a heavily rust stained tub that looked exactly like some of these in the pics.  It made the tub sparkling white.  Scroll down a bit on the page for shower/tub pics.  People post these because they are so amazed by the results.  I was!  I was like..., Woah Cool Big Grin

If you have not tried the stuff it’s well worth a shot!  Once tried, always used.

And scrubbing the tub for fifteen minutes, four days a week is great exercise. You may have seen my old photo. This is what I look like now thanks to Bar Keepers Friend!

I definitely need to start scrubbing the daylights out of everything in sight!

The pleasure is all mine, Mr Ken. Smile

My husband just showed me his post. The only factual portion of his post is that he does own a can of Barkeepers Friend.

Welcome to the forum!  We are all about the discovery of truth and facts here.

I take it that he doesn't really clean the tub? Big Grin

Welcome to the forum, Jubel, it’s nice to see you here!

I understand you appear to have classified information on our Fearless Leader. Intriguing!

I only have mid-level clearance, so bear that in mind if you would like to send information via semi-classified private messaging. It’s approximately as secure as the former White House server.

Good to know Mr Mike has a lifetime supply of BKF at his current rate of usage.

How much room is left in his Christmas stocking?

Mike, I thought I recognized your photo. Wasn't your name originally Charles Atlas?

This topic, which began humbly as a compliment, certainly gets the humor award.

Mr Ken, this really goes to show that our feelings for striking up new threads leads to more fun! You just never know where any given topic will wind up.

I would like to point out something about BKF that I learned from a Very knowledgeable, excellent sharpener. I only know him by his handle on Bladeforums, Mr cbwx34. He is a wise Gentleman.

You can test this for yourself, as I have, after it was pointed out by Mr cbwx34.

When cleaning ceramic with BKF, it’s actually easier than you’d think. No scrubbing is required. Like None.

Surprisingly, al you need do is coat your ceramic and go about other business. Come back 10 minutes to 10 years later and rinse them off.

No need for gloves or chapped fingers. The oxalic acid does the work so you don’t have toooooooooooo!

Jubel is a tea drinker so don't trust her fellas. Black tea, green tea, herbal tea. Tea to wake you up and tea to put you to sleep.  I couldn't find my scotch one morning...I mean evening. Where was it? Behind a big box of tea!
Some may think that the picture is a fraud, a fake, a hoax but I have proof of it's authenticity. See the missing fingertip at the bottom of the label? That is the result of one too many 150 BESS toothy edges.

You can use Bar Keepers Friend (its a great product indeed) for cleaning ceramic rods if you like but if you scrub your tub four times a week with it... you can look like me.
