Warning - Don't use Photobucket for hosting forum images
#11
I guess I don't understand. The picture came from photobucket as usual, although pictures I've posted here previously are indeed gone.

I've posted many hundreds of pics through pb.

So is it like a one time payment of $400 so all the pictures you've posted from photobucket will stay in place?

This is like a bad dream. Can't believe something like this is legal.

So what's the best way to get your pictures from pb to somewhere better, like imgar or whatever?

Hey there Mr. Mark, nice to have you back.  Smile   I have a bunch of comments on your other post about sharpening nice toothy edges at Sturgis, but I'm in the middle of changing oil on some equipment, so I'll comment on that later tonight.

Your picture never worked for me.  It always was just this:

If you have hundreds of posts out there with Pb linked images, you are basically fubar'd.  All those posts are now screwed by Pb and all the images are just the Pb ugly hosting blurb.

AND... Even if you were abused enough and beaten into submission to pay them, it's not a one time $399.00 payment. That's every year.  Year after year after year after year...  It's extortion.  Complete disrespect for their users, the web and information history.  They apparently think that it is going to pan out for them to extort money by holding other peoples data hostage, just like ransom viruses are doing.  Pay them money and you get your data back. Wacky Bomb Woah

Nice, eh?

Thank you Mr. Grepper! It's good to be back, and I look forward to discussing the rally.

I just checked my website, and to my utter disdain, I have no %#&@$ pictures. I have trouble comprehending how this can be legal.

I'm guessing that by now this is over. I mean there must be no recuse at this point. What's gone is gone.

So photosuckit is history. They killed the goose for a giant golden egg, because there are a Lot of people who will Have to shell out $400 post haste. But whoever is in charge of photosuckit better understand the meaning of deep cover, because he's probably one of the most hated people on the face of the earth right now. I can't begin to put my thoughts on record.

What happens to the pictures??

Your pictures are still there Mr. Mark.  Unless you canceled your account it is still active and all your images are in your "bucket" as they were before.

What Pb did was to break all the links to your images stored on Pb in blogs and forums, etc., so displaying your images on other sites no longer works.  This ruined many forums, blogs and web sites.

You can still log into Pb and all your images are there.  You can download them from Pb onto your local computer and save them.

After you have done that you can cancel your account and say goodbye to Pb forever.  At least that's what I, and probably millions of other users worldwide  did.

I thought I tried downloading the pics back from pb, and I couldn't make it happen. Maybe because everyone else is doing the same about now.

I think I had to use pb for the pictures I posted here too. I don't know how else to get the URL or whatever when I hit "insert image".

Interestingly and shamefully, you cannot use the “Download Your Bucket” option in Pb. It does not work.  I contacted Pb and they are aware of the problem.  Their solution is to view each image and download the image that you are viewing one at a time!  What a joke.  5arg

You can upload any image on your local computer to a forum post as an attachment, and you can place the thumbnail for that attachment anywhere in the forum text that you choose.  Placing the thumbnail for your attachment in the middle of post using the Insert Into Post button is explained here by our friendly admin.

What is currently not enabled in the forum is to display full size images in the middle of a post.  The forum software can do it, but it has some issues so it is not currently implemented.

Currently the only way to post full size images in the middle of a post is to host your images on another system (like Pb used to be) and then link to them.  I’m checking to see if there is another free service that allows that.  I believe that Imgur’s terms of service does not allow it, even though it may work.  I have not tried that service.

For now, maybe the best option is to upload images to the forum as an attachment, and like I mentioned, you can place the thumbnail for the attachment anywhere in the text of your post.

If anyone has any questions about this stuff please let me know or post a question.  I’m more than happy to help! Smile
