Periodic Table of the Elements
#1
Dear sharpeners, recently I have discovered colourful, fun, and informative periodic table of elements. http://elements.wlonk.com/ElementsTable.htm

Because steel is an iron-carbon alloy with other alloying elements (such as manganese, chromium, nickel, tungsten) it is good to know something more about it. When you click on an element you will get additional info.

I'm sorry Mr. Jan, but I couldn't click on the elements.

If you're looking for information about any alloys in any steel, the Interactive Steel Chart is one of the most informative sites that I've come across.

If you want to know the chemical makeup of any steel, or learn which elements contribute to the properties of any steel, this is the place!

Thanks for posting that Mr. Jan.  It certainly is the most fun periodic table I’ve ever seen.  Who knew a usually somewhat drab periodic table could be so colorful and so much fun!

It’s actually rather cool to see some of the uses of each element.  For instance I had no idea that Dysprosium was used for smart material actuators or even more exciting discovering how Tellurium is used in thermoelectric coolers.  Wink

Mr. Mark, that whole site with the interactive steel chart is interesting.  He talks about sharpening some of the knives he reviews, but for some reason there are no BESS sharpness test readings. Dodgy

Yes, Mr. Mark, you are correct, the Table of Elements is not specifically intended for metallurgists as your chart, but rather general, for learning by playing. Nevertheless it is interesting to see e.g. that important alloying element manganese and cobalt are immediate neighbours of iron in the periodic table. It allows deeper insight in some material properties or uses of some elements. Idea

It is good for educative playing with children or grandchildren.

It is a pity that the interactive version does not work for some reason for you, but all info is available in static form also.
