Order of hardening and sharpening - grepper - 12-15-2017

I'm pretty clueless about knife making, so a simple question:

When making a knife, is the final sharpening done before or after hardening?

There are a lot more qualified people than I on this subject, but, in my experience and my reading on the subject, I leave about .030" on 'edge' side of the blade to be removed and sharpened after HT.
HT likes to warp thin material, and I had this happen on a test HT for a small blade.

final sharpening is done after hardening and tempering. with thin stock, 1/16" or less, I oil quench to black then put between plates in a vise till a room temperature which helps prevent warping.

Succinctly, sharpening is the final step before boxing for delivery.

Before that, the sheath is fitted.

Before that, you haft the blade.

Before that, the blade is heat treated.

I only skipped about 50 steps.
