Rupert Grepper, Jan or anyone - Where does the loose sewn cotton buff fit into final final burr removal? Works for my edges - "I am a happy camper" Rupert Off to the VA for annual cardiology appointment. Thanks to the VA, wish our "for hire system" was as efficient. RE: Deburring - grepper - 06-01-2017 Mr. Rupert- are you putting any abrasive on the buff? RE: Deburring - Rupert Lucius - 06-01-2017 None no abrasive. Rupert RE: Deburring - grepper - 06-01-2017 Is the wheel soft and fluffy or stiff? RE: Deburring - Rupert Lucius - 06-01-2017 This is actually my wheel - https://www.woodcraft.com/products/buffing-wheel-8-x-1?via=573621bd69702d0676000002%2C573621da69702d0676000d03%2C5763fe9869702d6582000b71 No compound, just the buff @ at 1800 RPM Fellow sharpeners work at 3600 RPM Our results are the same One or two very light passes per side does the trick My thoughts are that Max (Tuffy) may use same buff for the same purpose. Rupert RE: Deburring - grepper - 06-01-2017 Well, Mr. Rupert, you are nothing if not but persistent about your success with that wheel. I appreciate that. You have now brought it up several times. Thanks for the persistence! I have a soft buffing wheel. It is layers of cloth, but very fuzzy on the outer surface. Very soft and fuzzy. It does not remove burr. Before I order this wheel, is it soft and fuzzy or is it rather firm? Deburring is the one thing that frustrates me. There has got to be a better, faster, more efficient and efficacious method than the way I'm currently doing it. I'm always open for suggestions! Mr. Rupert, if this is not soft and fuzzy, I'll order it and give it a try. I just hate purchasing stuff that does not work for what I buy it for. RE: Deburring - Rupert Lucius - 06-01-2017 Your described wheel - is identical to my wheel. Rupert RE: Deburring - grepper - 06-01-2017 Soft and fuzzy, eh? Well, crap, Mr. Rupert! I don't get it. I stuck one on a hand drill and tested it. Even considering it was slower than the RPM that you used, the thing did not remove burr well at all. For me it was a dismal failure! I'll stick it on my bench grinder and see RPM makes a difference. But I don't get it. A real head scratcher. How much pressure do you use? What angle to you apply the blade to the wheel? RE: Deburring - Rupert Lucius - 06-01-2017 No pressure - if any very very light. Looking at the wheel (end view) about the 10 AM position. All we want to cover is the cutting edge. Persistent RE: Deburring - grepper - 06-01-2017 Ok Mr. Rupert, I'll give it another go on my bench grinder this time. I'd love to find a really effective and quick way to remove burrs! I hate burrs! I'm burr intolerant. Maybe I'll even go wild and try a Scotch Brite belt again. |
