RE: Metalworking fluid for CBN wheels - Mark Reich - 01-21-2018 That sounds reasonable to me, Mr. Ken. The way I took whatever I read on the durability of the CBN wheels didn't sound applicable to low speed wet grinding. That's why I asked Mr. KG if he ever saw steam, since I assume he probably comes closest to pushing the limit of friction. Not to say that he does, I just know I do. When you're grinding for a living you have to, or you're not trying hard enough, IMHO. I don't know if it's possible to apply the pressure needed to generate heat with a Tormek. I also agree that wet grinding is well worth the effort. I had a great setup for running a TW-90 wet in my old shop, which I may want to replicate in my new shop. Instead, I've incorporated a spray bottle into the game, and it actually works awfully well. Time on belt is doubled, the belt stays clean, and the air stays clean. It's a compromise between effort, efficiency and mess. I use a hint of Simple Green for added effect, which is noticeable and economical. I've been thinking about Mr. EOU's new edge testing machine, and how badly I want to get my hands on one. I realize though, that it will be necessary to standardize edges. I'm not willing to dink around with the EP. I know I push the limit on that machine. Professionals who use it have seen me use it. It's still too slow. Especially with the kind of results y'all are getting with the Tormek. I had no idea that was possible. I will need the knife jig and CBN setup for a T7. I think I have additive for the water. I use Tri-Cool TC1 with a Kool Mist, and it seems like great stuff to me. I get these sort of things the best machine shop and supply around. I've been using it for years, and I've never had any problems with it. It makes a big difference, even at 40:1 dilution, recommended for grinding. Very good rust inhibitor, no milkiness, no residue, in my experience. What do y'all think? |
